THE PARADIGM
EVANGELISM PURPOSE STATEMENT:
“Growing Disciples Through Shared Leadership”
EVANGELISM VALUES STATEMENT:
A. The MOTIVES of the GreatCommandments
1. Love God: By exercising the spiritual disciplines
2. Love others: By expressing the fruit of the Spirit
B. The METHODS of the Great Commission
1. “GO”: Practicing Incarnational ministry by every member using their spiritual gifts
2. “MAKE DISCIPLES”: Equipping, enabling, empowering believers to Imitate Jesus
3. “BAPTIZE”: Participating in reconciliation provided by Christ & membership in His Body
4. “TEACH”: Proclaiming the everlasting gospel, through every member, in the context of the Three Angels’ Messages.
IMPLICATIONS OF THESE VALUES:
Evangelism is a process (rather than only an event)
- of making DISCIPLES (rather than mere believers)
- enacted by ALL MEMBERS through SHARED LEADERSHIP (i.e., priesthood of all believers working together)
Evangelism is motivated by
- love for God
o Evangelism includes discipling all members in the spiritual disciplines.
- love for others
o Evangelism includes rooting all members in agape love, which bears the fruit of the Spirit.
Evangelism occurs
- incarnationally
- all members entering the lives, hearts, and realities of lost people.
o by teaching the everlasting gospel (all of it) in the context of Adventism (i.e., the 3 Angels Messages)
- through members empowered and equipped to teach the everlasting gospel.
Evangelism results
- in reconciliation (restored relationship) with God.
- in membership into the Body of Christ; in our case, the Seventh-day Adventist Church
NOTE: Everything we dream, prioritize, plan, implement, fund, resource, and experiment per evangelism, would be in alignment with, and accountable to, our purpose and values.
GROWING DISCIPLES THROUGH SHARED LEADERSHIP:
This Biblical paradigm impacts members and local churches and members the opportunity to incorporate a process of discipleship and become soul winners through the love, learn, live, lead paradigm.
(This process symbolized by the pocket watch below)
LOVE loving lost people
LEARN helping those who “express interest” learn what Jesus offers them
LIVE guiding new members to live according to His plans and fulfill their purpose
LEAD leading them to become active disciples who are making other disciples
STRATEGIC PLAN IMPORTANT ITEMS
THE GOAL:
The goal in the next ten years is to effectively implement the “Growing Disciples Through Shared Leadership” paradigm (love, learn, live, lead) throughout Georgia-Cumberland Conference.
CURRENT OBJECTIVE:
In order to reach our goal, the current focal point of the Evangelism Department is to help us implement this paradigm to establish 12 model churches in the next 3 years (by end of 2012)
(ACCOMPLISHED: 13 pilot churches to date.)
